Ok I don't know what the deal is but every time I go to a MX track I see bike after bike totally decaled out with race numbers and everything. Then I see the same bikes out on the track just tooling around.I know that some of these guys might buy the bikes used with the decals already on them but the majority are new decal kits that you can buy at a your local bike shop.
Now in the street bike area we call these guys squids (Posers) and it is totally unacceptable.
So what I am wondering is if this is not a big deal or are these guys considered posers also?

I don't know that necessarily posers...they aren't telling you that they are super fast are they?
Maybe they just want to run the decals that their favorite racers run because they are fans.
I'll show ya a real squid:

no i don't think this ever has been an issue in mx...you run whatever you want to run on your bike... lots of guys stick the decals on their bikes they get from races and/or the get them free thru the mail.

I care becuase noramly the tools that have all the decals on there bikes are the ones that give you bad advices. Or the guys that tell you the "I jumped over three buildings" story. And believe me street riders are never bored.

I think there is a combination of things...some guys like me have Hare Scramble or Enduro #'s on the bike, and like to MX also. Others also like to run the # of their favorite rider...and some just get used bikes and keep the # already on there until they change the graphics. The guys that make me laugh...are the ones with new bikes that are loaded to the gills with awesome after market parts, the newest gear, and yet they ride a lap at a time and spend more time hanging in the pits trying to look good...but to each his own...I go riding for my enjoyment, not to judge people (although I can't help myself sometimes!! LOL)

ive got Thor core original gangster and rm-z250 2008 with NO decals. u think I`m a poser then?
Why are people posers if they try 2 make their bikes look cool? If thats what posers are, then its meny posers.

I was just wondering if the mindset in the MX world is the same as it is in the street racing world. It looks like it is not even close, which is good. I'm all about maken my bike look cool but I think I will learn to ride better before I get the wicked pissa decals.

I've rode enough street bikes to know that there are a lot of posers in that side of the industry too. Anyone with a wheelie bar, who can't even throw up a wheelie...is a poser.
How about all the guys with stickers on sportbikes?
Where are you from anyway?

Ya no doubt there are a crap load of posers in the street bike field. I avoid them at all cost. I was just wondering if the same is true for the dirt field as the street field. But this is my street bike in Germany before I moved back to Ga. As you can see I earned the decals.

I started racing motocross in 1977. In my teen years, I raced at Ponca City 5 years in a row. I had a Team Green sponsorship in '82. I ride my Harley to work everyday.I'm buying a YZ250 2-stoker next week and getting back into MX racing in +40 class. I sure hope to become a "real biker" some day.

Personally I find those 2 things very different. On streetbikes squids are more refered to as the people who put other people in danger from riding beyond there limits to impress people. I personally think a squid and a poser are 2 different things. Before I could even get close to balance point in a wheelie on my first rocket I had a 12bar a cage and my bike was all setup for stunting. The truth is I only did street wheelies then, never came close to taping the bar, and I really had no need for a cage. I was a huge poser. I've never really heard of people being called squids or posers for putting different decals on there bike. IMO set your bike up the way you want. If you like something put it on. Make it as close to "perfect" as you can in your own eyes.

I've never heard the term "squid" in the street bike world. In the 80's motocross races, we used "squid" to mean looking nerdy or dorky. You could be a top pro and crash, break your visor off and we'd say, "HA HA, you were riding egghead. What a squid!" Since I've been riding Harley's, the term poser seems to describe someone who tries to look like a 1%er, but seems very new to the activity of motorcycle riding. We as motorcyclists are lumped together into one pot called "bikers" by general society, yet we scrutinize each other worse than a teenage popularity contest. Who cares!!? As far as I'm concerned, if you own a motorcycle and ride it, you are furthering our lifestyle and sport. If you are going to point a negative finger at someone, point at the one who rides a wheelie through the pits, or otherwise puts innocent bystanders in danger. Those are the squids or posers or whatever unfashionable name you want to call them.
